§ 2-3-83. Duties of the MAC.

  • The MAC shall have responsibility to perform the following functions:

    (1)

    Recommend medical protocols for the county fire and emergency medical service department (hereinafter referred to as department) regarding basic and advanced life support procedures.

    (2)

    Make advisory recommendations on policies and procedures for the training of personnel of the department relating to the medical services provided by such personnel.

    (3)

    Make advisory recommendations to the department on the acquisition of equipment and communications.

    (4)

    Make advisory recommendations for the development of a patient care quality assurance system to assess the medical performance of paramedics and EMTs.

    (5)

    Make advisory recommendations on the development of additional educational curricula for the training of employees of the department.

    (6)

    Develop and make advisory recommendations regarding medically reasonable standing orders and/or protocols which may be adopted by the medical director which permit specified advance life support (ALS) procedures when communication cannot be established with a supervising physician or when any delay in patient care would have potential life- or limb-threatening consequences. Standing orders and protocols shall ensure that patients are transported to facilities that offer a type and level of care appropriate to the patient's medical condition if available within the service region.

    (7)

    Develop and make advisory recommendations regarding a quality assurance program, including but not limited to a prompt review of run reports, direct observation, and comparison of performance standards for drugs, equipment, system protocols and procedures which may be adopted by the medical director and used by him/her in auditing the performance of the department's personnel.

    (8)

    Develop and make advisory recommendations regarding EMT and paramedic continuing education credits which may be adopted by the medical director.

    (9)

    Develop and make advisory recommendations regarding the trauma transport protocols which may be adopted by the medical director and approved by the DOH bureau of EMS.

    (10)

    Develop and make advisory recommendations regarding other matters impacting Charlotte County Fire/EMS not specifically enumerated.
