§ 2-1-1. Enhanced emergency telephone service; fees.

  • (a)

    There is hereby approved the continuation and enhancement of the 911 system of emergency telephone service reporting in Charlotte County. There is hereby imposed a local option fee for nonrecurring charges for the provision of E-911 service and equipment.

    (b)

    A fee for recurring charges for the provision of E-911 service and equipment not to exceed fifty cents ($0.50) per month, per line, up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) exchange lines, shall be paid by local exchange telephone subscribers and will be adjusted annually to cover expenses attributable to the service.

    (c)

    Sprint/United Telephone of Florida, Inc., and GTE are hereby requested to collect the fees hereinabove set forth from their subscribers in Charlotte County. The county shall pay to each of the telephone companies an administrative fee equal to one (1) percent of the fees collected by them. The administrative fee shall be first deducted by each telephone company from the fees collected by it and the remainder of the fees collected shall be remitted monthly to Charlotte County. The collecting telephone companies shall have no obligation to take legal action to enforce collection of any fee.
