§ 1-2-113. Purpose.

  • The general purpose and objectives of the committee shall be to:

    (1)

    Act in an advisory capacity to the board of county commissioners of Charlotte County on matters related to agriculture, natural resources, private property rights and rural land use.

    (2)

    Provide a needed and appropriate forum for communication between county staff and citizens possessing business, professional and civic interests in agriculture, natural resources and private property rights and rural land use, to facilitate exchange of information and ideas, and to serve as a sounding board for staff as they plan programs and projects that will or could impact agriculture, natural resources, private property rights and rural land use in Charlotte County.

    (3)

    Encourage and develop public and governmental awareness of the need to promote and ensure a healthy and sustainable agricultural economy in Charlotte County, by informing and educating the public and governmental authorities of the environmental, economic and social impact and importance of Charlotte County's agricultural lands and agricultural production, including range, timber and wildlife production.

    (4)

    Coordinate and promote both public and private efforts to balance a healthy agricultural economy with good stewardship of agricultural land and water resources, and to achieve agricultural sustainability by means of integrated plant and animal production practices which will, over the long-term, satisfy human food and fiber needs; enhance environmental quality and the natural resource base upon which the agricultural economy depends; make the most efficient use of nonrenewable resources and on-farm/ranch resources and integrate, where appropriate, natural biological cycles and controls; sustain the economic viability of farm/ranch operations; and enhance the quality of life for farmers/ranchers and society as a whole.

    (5)

    Coordinate with other local, state and federal representatives of government, and with private interests, toward the goal of preserving agricultural opportunity, productivity, profitability, and sustainability to maintain Charlotte County's renewable soil and water resource base and its diversified and balanced local economy.
