§ 2-4-8. Student driver education programs; funding.

  • (a)

    The clerk of court shall collect an additional five dollar ($5.00) surcharge for all civil traffic violations. This surcharge shall not be applicable to parking tickets.

    (b)

    The funds collected from this additional surcharge shall be placed in a separate "student driver education fund" to be administered by the county budget office.

    (c)

    Pursuant to the intent of the Florida Legislature, these funds shall be used for educational purposes only and not for administrative purposes. These funds shall be used to improve, update, and expand school administered student driver education programs by supplementing existing budgets for such programs. Each driver education program receiving funds shall require that a minimum of thirty (30) percent of a student's time in the program be behind-the-wheel training.

    (d)

    Allocation and use of the funds in the student driver education fund shall be determined by the board of county commissioners and the county school board.
